This is the error message I get while checking my windows updates. Before I had a bunch of windows 8.1 updates that hadn't been installed on my computer, they wouldn't automatically download and install, but when I searched for updates a huge list popped up so I chose to install all of them before I upgraded to windows 10. After they all seemed to install and nothing else was listed, the windows 10 app a day or two later said my windows 10 was being downloaded in the background and I could check the download progress. When clicking the progress link, it took me to the windows update window and tried to check for updates with this error.

I scanned for viruses, manually checked to see if my windows updates were selected for automatically checking and installing, everything seemed ok. After a few other attempts, I decided to do a system restore to the point before I downloaded all the older updates and still I get the same error message.

Is there anything I can do to fix this and get my reserved copy of windows 10?

Hi,

The most common cause of the error code is a computer virus that has turned off Windows Update, or another service on your computer that is needed by Windows Update. I recommend you to follow the steps to solve the problem.

1. Because the virus often blocks the computer's ability to run antivirus programs, or causes those programs to be ineffective, you would better start the windows in safe mode and scan the virus in it.

2. Restart the service required by Windows Update. Refer the link below to know how to perform.

3. You can reset Windows Update components by the link below.
